Westchester IV Sedation Dentistry

Are you feeling anxious about the dental treatment you know you need?

If the idea of going to the dentist completely stresses you out, you are not alone. Dental phobia, or fear of dentists, is a very common concern for millions of people. Like you, many people may put off dental treatment because of this fear. Unfortunately this only leads to more costly and complicated procedures down the road.

Westchester IV Sedation Dentistry works with you to help eliminate your anxiety

There are several types of sedation available for patients who simply can’t tolerate a trip to the dentist. We offer sedation options like oral medications and inhalation sedation that allow you to comfortably receive the important dental treatment you need.

But if you are extremely fearful and facing the prospect of having dental surgery, extractions or extensive restorative dental work, Westchester IV Sedation Dentistry offers a very effective option. Intravenous, or IV, sedation is designed to eliminate pain and put you in a relaxed state so that you are completely comfortable during treatment.

Who is a candidate for IV Sedation?

IV Sedation is completely safe when administered under close supervision by your Westchester IV Sedation dentist. First we need to gather your basic medical information including blood pressure, oxygen level, and heart rate. You also need to tell us about any medications you are taking so we can check for potential drug interactions.

What happens during my treatment with IV Sedation?

During your pre-treatment appointment, we explain in detail exactly what will happen during your time in the dental chair. We answer all your questions, spending as much time with you as needed until we know you thoroughly understand the procedure and the sedation process. At this time, our team will provide any recommended fasting requirements as well as post-operative care instructions.

Once the IV sedation starts, you will feel extremely drowsy, but you will not be asleep. You will be awake enough to respond to verbal cues from your dentist and the sedation team. Someone will be with you at all times to ensure your safety. We monitor your blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels throughout the procedure.

But you will be so completely relaxed that you will not be aware of any of the sights, sounds, or smells experienced during treatment. Most patients remember little or nothing of what occurred during their appointment.

How long does it take to recover from IV Sedation?

Everyone responds differently, but most people begin to feel more alert as soon as the IV is removed. You will feel drowsy, though, and it’s important to remember that you need a driver to and from your appointment. We will not release you until we know someone is there to take you home. It is also best to have someone stay with you at home for the first couple hours so that you don’t need to be up and moving around while you are still feeling the effects of sedation.

With safe and effective sedation at the Westchester IV sedation dentist office, you can overcome your anxiety and get the critical dental treatment you need.
